Lilies – Abstract

Here is my rendition of Lilies in the “cubism” format – something that I have tried for the very first time. It does not strictly qualify for the cubism category, though, since I have used only some ‘cubes” in the background while maintaining the white shade in the flowers. I guess you could call it an “abstract”.

This is an Oil on Canvas.

The Boy In The Rain

Once again, a palette-knife painting depicting a boy running down a street in the rain, holding an umbrella over his head. Even a dull rainy scene can be made bright and colourful with bright colours smeared across the canvas with a palette knife. The reflection of light on the trees and in the water on the street helps to add more colour to the overall effect.

When I first saw this painting on the net, I immediately knew that I just HAD to make this one using the palette knife. As I had mentioned in another post earlier, there is something about the palette knife that brings out all the vibrant colours in a painting and makes it feel so alive. Each and every petal of this painting is highlighted by the palette knife, which would just not have been possible to achieve in a normal oil on canvas painting. The raised effect stands out so clearly with a palette knife.

The Saxophone Player

I happened to be in the Connaught Place area one day, and stopped by a street-side vendor selling posters. There was this amazing poster of a saxophone player that caught my attention, and I bought it immediately. I have tried to replicate the poster in this painting, and the boy in the painting somehow reminds me of my son 🙂

This is an Oil on Canvas, and now hangs in the bedroom of my brother, who just fell in love with this painting.

The Couple By The Railing

This painting is very special for me and is prominently displayed as the centerpiece in my living room. It is special because it is my very first attempt at painting with a palette knife. There is something special about working with a palette knife instead of brushes, and it brings out all the vibrant oil colours beautifully. Using a brush just does not bring out the same effect, and this is something that I will be experimenting with a lot in the near future.

Hope you like this one just as much as I do !

The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse

This one was my first serious attempt at oil on canvas. Of course, it was inspired from a photograph of a similar painting that I came across while searching on google. It may not exactly be perfect, but I certainly cherish this one because it was my first oil, and it is prominently displayed in the entrance passage at home.
